SyntaxEdit, one document line, and live spelling

This has been a long time issue that would be nice to get resolved.

If there is a blank document that has only one line and you start typing, it is VERY SLOW and the squiggly red underlines (for misspelled words) appear far below the first line, as if the words were on line 15 or something. Now, as soon as you hit enter and the document has 2 lines, the problem goes away and the squiggly red lines are redrawn correctly.

So the problem only happens when:

1. The document contains only one line

2. Live spelling (with Addict spell checker) is enabled

See screenshot... look at where the squiggly red line is drawn where there is no document (because it's only 1 line).

Any ideas? Can you fix this?

Still can't find the reason. I spent a lot of time today, traced all used EM_XXX messages, and from my viewpoint, messages return correct data.

Strange behavior.

Yes.

Don't know. Addict works good with simple memo (with single line).

OK. I guess this long-time bug will just have to stay. Fortunately it's not that big of an issue but it is quite strange.

The problem is that I only see a half of the picture. I need Addict sources for debugging.

I'll post a link to this thread in the Addict support forum in case they can shed any light on it. Unfortunately I don't think Addict has had much development/support lately... kind of like SyntaxEdit where they still have the product but don't spend any more time adding anything new. :( Fortunately it and SyntaxEdit still work in 10.2.1... and I will probably update to 10.2.2 soon.

In case you are interested, there was a response from the Addict developer who explains what the issue probably is. Perhaps SyntaxEdit is not responding to some messages like a normal RichEdit control would when Addict tries to determine the line height.

Anyway, I think I've implemented a mitigation for this issue but in case you want to investigate it further then please see the link to my forum post on the Addict support forums.

I don't see a proof to this in Addict forum. In contrast I see that they claim that the problem is in their algorithms.

Well it's not that important... I'll live with the issue and my workaround. I do think their algorithm needs some work when it comes to performance though, as the editor becomes ridiculously slow as it seemingly tries to constantly determine the line height over and over again (although that's just my guess as to why it's so slow when this problem happens).
