lmdEditmask for currency

Trying to use TLmedEditMask. Have it set to meCurrency, in the positive property it shows something like a question mark in a black diamond, then ,1,1 and the symbol property is set to $. When I run the code, the box appears with the ? in the black diamond and then 0.00. What is that black diamond thing and why won't it show the $ at the front of the string ?

    Please replace the diamond symbol in edit's CurrencySettings (NegativeFormatStr and PositiveFormatStr props) with the following symbol: "¤". 

    The default values of mentioned properties will be fixed in the next minor release.
