Custom painting of Object inspector value

My users have asked if I could show the color (for color properties) as a small square in the object inspector, next to the name.  I can see how to do this for the picklist and have this working,  but I can't see anyway to custom draw the value shown when the property is not being edited as per Delphi's object inspector.  Can you help?.
